Garoodi Women Development Association (GWDA) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization working to address health, environmental degradation, and poverty among rural communities in Somaliland. Founded by women health activists, GWDA operates with a strong commitment to sustainable development and grassroots empowerment.
GWDA supports livelihoods and food security by empowering rural families with training, tools and resources to increase production, income stability and long term resilience.
GWDA improves water, sanitation and hygiene by expanding access to safe drinking water, building clean latrines and promoting healthy practices for vulnerable communities.
GWDA strengthens education and skill development by building rural schools, equipping learning spaces, providing vocational training and supporting out of school children.
GWDA strengthens health and mental health services by improving access to quality care for rural and vulnerable communities, reducing barriers and promoting inclusive medical support.
GWDA empowers women and youth by promoting gender equality, strengthening leadership skills, expanding income opportunities and supporting vulnerable families.
The Environmental Awareness program is dedicated to building public understanding and appreciation of the benefits of environmental protection and sustainable practices. This program recognizes that lasting environmental protection requires informed and engaged communities who understand the value of their natural resources.
